March 17, 2022, 3pm – 4:30pm CET (Central European Time)

The University of Sheffield, TU Berlin, RWTH Aachen and IASS Potsdam, supported by the Global CO2 Initiative and EIT Climate-KIC, cordially invite you to the launch event of the TEA and LCA Guidelines for CO2 Utilization Technologies Version 2.0.

With increasing support across the globe, innovations in carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies are now widely acknowledged. In order to assess the potential benefits and reduce environmental and commercial risks of these innovations, life-cycle assessments (LCA) and techno-economic assessments (TEA) are needed that inform decision makers in industry, academia and policy.

During this event we will present the new versions of the guidance documents “Techno-Economic Assessment & Life-Cycle Assessment Guidelines for CO2 Utilization (Version 2.0)” and “Making Sense of Techno-Economic Assessment & Life Cycle Assessment Studies for CO2 Utilization: A guide on how to commission, understand, and derive decisions from TEA and LCA studies (Version 2.0).”

Both aim at enabling a comprehensive and transparent comparison between different CCU technologies for practitioners and non-practitioners, reducing ambiguity in assessment results, avoiding pitfalls, and are foreseen to accelerate funding decisions and promote further technology development. Since their first introduction in 2018, the consortium has involved an open community of practitioners, commissioners and users of such assessments to gather feedback on the initial Guidelines.

The topics that will be presented focus on:

(1)   Performing TEA and LCA at early stages of technology development to support R&D decisions early on.

(2)   Combining TEA and LCA to benefit from the strengths of both assessment methodologies.

(3)  Providing guidance to decision makers on how to commission, understand, and derive decisions from TEA and LCA studies.

(4) Presenting insights about the relevance and applicability of Social-LCA for CCU.

The launch will take place on March 17th (3pm – 4:30pm CEST) in digital form.

This will be the final event of the CO2nsistent project.

All the registered participants will receive a digital copy of the documents that will be presented at the launch one week before the event and will be invited to submit questions prior to the event.
